To maximise the massage experience, I tend to work most areas of the body as a professional therapist. Please let me know if there are any places on your body that you don’t want massaged. During our initial appointment, you may be asked to check off areas on an intake form, or you may be required to do so verbally. I will follow your instructions.
Can you ask for a massage to be avoided on every part of your body? This is another question for which there is no simple answer. The person receiving the massage should be at ease. If something during the massage causes them to contract their muscles, the massage’s benefits will be lost. If a buttocks massage makes you nervous, for example, massaging this region is pointless. The body, on the other hand, is one interconnected organism. And if you are experiencing pain in one part of your body prior to receiving a massage, the source of the issue may be in another part of your body. Muscles all over the body will suffer as a result of overcompensating for a nagging ache or injury by limping, walking differently, or carrying yourself differently than normal. To get the best out of a massage, make sure to cover all of your bases. If you skip over the buttocks, you’ll miss all of the massive and important muscles that link the torso to the lower limbs.
I’ve seen and massaged thousands of different bodies as a licenced massage therapist. I’m not going to get worked up over seeing or massaging some part of your body. I’ve started on a new client’s buttocks on many occasions, and sensed a little twinge of nervousness from them as I did so, but by the time I was done, they were comfortable, and always said they didn’t know they were sore there.
Working around a woman’s breasts, in addition to the buttocks, is another place that causes a lot of anxiety. To avoid making the client uncomfortable, some therapists completely skip this section. Others target the pectoralis muscles (your pecs) above and to the side of the breast near the armpit. When operating on these areas, they drape as much of the breast as possible. It can be a crucial area once again, particularly if you have upper back issues. The muscles of the upper back can be affected by chest muscle tightness. The same caveat applies: if you stop being comfortable while this area is being worked on, the massage’s benefits will be lost.
As a general rule, during a massage, aim to remain as calm as possible. If this is your first massage and you become anxious as I shift to a new place, try to relax and enjoy the sensation of getting the tension worked out of your muscles. When you come to trust my strokes and professional approach during future visits with me, your anxiety about those areas will most likely fade.
What location will my massage or bodywork session be held
Is it necessary for me to be fully undressed
The majority of massage and bodywork techniques are usually done with the client undressed; however, you can wear whatever you want. You should undress to your comfort level. Throughout the session, you will be draped properly under a towel.
When I undress, will the practitioner be present
No, it’s not true. While you undress, relax on the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet, the practitioner will leave the room.
Is there going to be some security for me during the session
To keep you safe and comfortable, you will be draped under a sheet at all times. The only area that would be visible is the one that is being worked on.
What parts of my body will receive massage treatment
You and the doctor will talk about what you want to get out of your session. This will help you figure out which areas of your body need to be massaged. Back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders are all worked on in a standard full body session. Your genitals (male or female) or breasts will not be touched in any way (female).
What would you expect from the massage or bodywork?
It is dependent on the methods employed. Many massage therapists use a Swedish massage technique, which is often used as a starting point for newcomers. Your session can begin with broad, flowing strokes to help calm your nervous system and relieve exterior muscle tension in a general Swedish massage. Pressure will be gradually increased as the body relaxes, allowing particular areas to relax and areas of muscle stress to be relieved.
A light oil or lotion is often used to massage your muscles without adding undue friction to your skin. The oil also aids in the hydration of your skin.
If you are uncomfortable, you can interact quickly so that a different path can be taken. When your body is not resisting massage and bodywork, it is most healthy.
Is there a difference between various types of massage and bodywork?
Different strokes are used in different techniques of massage and bodywork, including simple rubbing strokes, rocking movement, posture and movement re-education, application of pressure to particular points, and more. Inquire about the techniques that the practitioner employs.
